Update on Medtronic's Guardian Connect CGM System

Healthy Living Medical Supply’s Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) Team had the opportunity to participate in a live webinar yesterday from Medtronic – the focus of the session was their new stand-alone CGM product known as the Guardian Connect CGM System. Our team has been eagerly anticipating the launch of this product since the product received FDA approval back in March.

Here are a few highlights of what we learned about the product during the webinar:

1.     The Guardian Connect transmitter connects via Bluetooth technology to iPhones (and iPod Touch devices if you can purchase one on eBay)

2.     The sensor is the same as the one used for the 670G closed loop system, but the Guardian Connect transmitter DOES NOT communicate with the 670G pump. The transmitter is labeled “GC” which differentiates it from the transmitter used with the 670G pump.

3.     The system does not have a receiver—this will be a great benefit to those patients who don’t want to haul around another piece of hardware.

4.     Android support is coming-Medtronic is targeting the end of the calendar year for Android users.

5.     The sensor features a new barrier which helps mitigate against skin irritation – this is also the smallest sensor ever for a Medtronic CGM product.

6.     Sensor wear time is up to 7 days and the system includes a one-year warranty.

7.     The system features a range of alerts, including predictive alerts which can notify of highs and lows anywhere from 10-60 minutes in advance.

8.     Patients can invite up to five care partners to view data and receive alerts via SMS and data is easily shared with providers via the Care Link system.

9.     The Guaurdian Connect CGM System providers users access to the Sugar.IQ diabetes assistant, which is a separate application on the phone. The Sugar.IQ app takes real time data from the Guardian Connect app, sync with IBM’s Watson, and then presents various insulin, food and motivational insights to the user.

Medtronic’s Guardian Connect Smart CGM system is slated to be released in early summer. The system is not approved by Medicare, but should be reimbursed by most major commercial insurances including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Health Alliance Plan of Michigan, Priority Health, etc.

Moved, Settled In & Glad to Be in Detroit

It’s been about a month since Healthy Living moved its headquarters to 2111 Woodward Avenue in Detroit. We asked Healthy Living employees to share how they like the new office space in Detroit and what they enjoy about working in Detroit. This blog features a compilation of pictures of our 11th floor office and the reflections we received from members of the team about our new locale!

What do you think about the new Healthy Living office space in Detroit?

I am thrilled with the new HLMS office in Detroit. The space looks great, the setup is convenient, and the views of the city are outstanding!

It is fantastic – our office is by far the best space I've ever worked in. The space is filled with natural light and we rarely have the lights on during the day - I love working by the natural light! And when we do use lights, they are high efficiency incandescent lights - we don't have any fluorescent lights in the space. All of the natural daylight exposure has a positive impact the overall feel and workplace atmosphere.

Why do you like working in the City of Detroit?

I love working in the city. I can go and visit some of my favorite spots in the state on my lunch break.  Hart Plaza is a wonderful place to watch freighters float by throughout the year.  Also, the Riverwalk has blossomed into a haven for exercise.  I especially enjoy this area during the spring, where you feel safe while riding your bike through the city, while offering great views on Detroit and Windsor.

-        Adam

It is exciting to be working in such a vibrant downtown central business district. I worked in San Francisco for four years and that was a fantastic experience – and Detroit is right up there with San Francisco in my opinion. The architecture, the friendly people, the culture, the public transit that exists (I take the bus to work on occasion).

How do you feel about Healthy Living moving to Detroit?

I have always been a huge advocate of Detroit. I enjoy spending time here and know that it has much more to offer then most people realize. I am extremely proud to be part of a company that has invested in Detroit. Healthy Living Medical Supply and other businesses moving downtown will definitely accelerate the revitalization of the city.

-        George K

What else is cool about the new location?

I love seeing so many projects that we can watch develop in front of our eyes. From Little Caesar's right next door, to New Little Caesars Arena being built across 75.  It is wonderful seeing Detroit blossom into what could potentially be a destination city for people throughout the country.

-        Adam

The view from the space is amazing, with a 360-degree view of the city (we have windows on all four sides). We had a meeting with some partners from the West Coast last week, and we spent time strolling around the space, taking photos and enjoying the view of Comerica Park, Woodward Avenue, Michigan Central Station, the Central Business District, and even a portion of the Ambassador Bridge.

Healthy Living Medical Supply Partners with Rocket Fiber in New Detroit Location

Healthy Living Medical Supply, a specialty provider of mail order diabetes supplies and maintenance medications, will be relocating this November from Troy to their new downtown Detroit office in the Francis Palms building in the Central Business District.

After being approached by Rocket Fiber, a new Detroit-based service provider offering gigabit internet speeds, Healthy Living chose to partner and benefit from their amazingly fast internet capabilities. Healthy Living will be the first business to be hooked in to this service in the Palms building, working with Stephen Sawyer, a representative from Rocket Fiber. The installation is still in process, with the goal of being up and running by November 1.

Fiber optics, brought directly into the 11th floor of the Palms building, will provide a faster and more effective internet connection than could be received by older and slower copper phone or cable lines. Healthy Living is looking forward to these mind-blowing internet speeds to help improve the customer experience and work more efficiently as a team. “To provide the best possible customer service and to allow our business to continue to develop and grow, we depend on robust, reliable, and secure IT services, and that is exactly what Rocket Fiber provides,” explained Matt Montagne, VP of Strategy and Innovation at Healthy Living Medical Supply.

Rocket Fiber provides internet speeds that are up to 1,000 times faster than the average residential connection in the United States. As of early July, Rocket Fiber has laid more than 20 miles of new fiber and set up more than 40 residential and commercial buildings online in the City of Detroit.

Healthy Living Medical Supply Announces Move to the City of Detroit to Better Serve Its Customers and Health Plan Partners

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Healthy Living Medical Supply Announces Move to the City of Detroit to Better Serve Its Customers and Health Plan Partners

Troy, MI, August 16, 2016 – Healthy Living Medical Supply today announced its upcoming move to downtown Detroit, Michigan. Currently based in Troy, Michigan, Healthy Living has been a leading provider of mail order diabetes supplies and maintenance medications for almost a decade.

Healthy Living will relocate to the historic Palms Building on Woodward Avenue later this year and will become the only diabetes specialty provider and pharmacy located in Detroit, positioning the company to strengthen existing relationships and to build new ones. “With this move, we are investing in the future of both Healthy Living and the City of Detroit,” said Mike Lewis, CEO of Healthy Living Medical Supply. He continued, “We believe that our new location will enable us to better serve our existing customers, and to attract and retain the best team possible to expand our business in Michigan and beyond.  We are very excited to participate in the rebirth of a great American city.”

Cliff Grabowski, President of Healthy Living Medical Supply, noted that the upcoming move will place Healthy Living within walking distance of several major Michigan health plans, including Meridian, Blue Cross Blue Shield, HAP, and Aetna. He stated that “This is a natural move for Healthy Living, with several of our key health plan partners and a significant number of our customers residing within the City of Detroit. Our relocation will give us a stronger connection with the local diabetes community in a city full of renewed hope and inspiration.” Healthy Living has a large number of clients in Detroit, so the relocation also will enable the company to better focus on customer engagement and community service with the American Diabetes Association, JDRF, and other charitable, research, and support organizations.
