Happy Thanksgiving from Healthy Living!

Today is a special day of the year when we collectively reflect on our lives with gratitude. 2020 may be a year when our grateful list and our Thanksgiving celebrations look a little different. But let’s not overlook the gifts in our lives that are pulling us through, connecting us, and bringing us comfort, peace, and joy.

On behalf of Healthy Living, I would like to thank our customers, employees, providers, partners, owners and the rest of our care team for their gifts of ongoing support, friendship, teamwork, commitment, and loyalty… We are forever grateful for your caring hearts. Wishing you and your loved ones a Thanksgiving full of togetherness and kindness, and gratitude for what is.

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more.

The Healthy Living team would like to say thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, to our customers, providers, and partners who continue to work closely with us during this time. Although this year has brought many changes for all of us, we always appreciate the opportunity to care for you and provide the best service possible. Our first priority is the safety of our patients and employees, and that continues to shape our decisions as we move forward. Please accept our gratitude as we journey through this time together!

TED's Non-Cheesy Guide to Gratefulness

As we transition into the New Year, this can be a really great moment to find a little gratitude for the good (and not so good) things in our lives. But if we, our family, or our friends are in an especially hard spot, or we are just plain worn out, getting in the mindset of gratefulness can be near impossible. Take a look at this blog post from the TED blog: A non-cheesy guide to gratefulness: What to read and watch. Here you will find some truly fresh takes on how to approach gratitude and say "thank you" in a new way.

“Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”

At Thanksgiving, many of us pause and take a little extra time to consider what we’re thankful for. Beyond November, gratitude that is revisited throughout the year can have awesome benefits for the person with the grateful heart as well as the friends and family who interact with him or her. Check out this article to learn about the positive health impacts of practicing gratitude. Here is a preview from the article…

Mothers of T1D Kids Are Superheroes

Among the greatest Superheroes is the mother of a Type 1 Diabetic child. #HappyMothersDay Morph Pillow LLC donates 5% of all profits towards a grant assistance program to help Type 1 Diabetic families who can't cover their medical expenses. For more information visit: http://www.morphpillow.com/t1d-grant.html

Check out this video to get a glimpse into the lives of Type 1 Diabetes families and witness the gratitude children with diabetes feel for the care they receive. Five thoughtful kids reflect on what their moms do every day to help manage their Type 1 Diabetes and keep them healthy and safe. They talk about all of the love their moms give them.

One of the questions they were asked is, ‘What is your message to all moms of T1D kids?’ Here are their five responses:

·        “Don’t be scared. I’ll always be there for you.”

·        “Let’s help each other, and we’ll get through it together.”

·        “It’s okay. You don’t have to worry about it.”

·        “Their kids really appreciate them and they love them and are grateful for them to be their mom.”

·        “I think the moms do a really good job of taking care of us all…”

The Healthy Living team watched a video like this at a company meeting last year and then reflected on what impacted us the most.  Many employees were truly humbled by what the moms and kids go through each day with dosing, carb counting, managing their insulin pumps, testing blood sugar levels at all hours of the day, and everything else involved in being successful with diabetes.

Healthy Living Gratitude Roundup

The Healthy Living team is thankful for so much in 2016! While celebrating the holiday season and getting ready for the New Year, our team members have pondered what warms their hearts with gratitude:

  • I'm thankful for the amazing and wonderful coworkers I get the pleasure of working with every day. As always I am thankful each and every day to wake up knowing I have a loving family and a place to call home. It is unfortunate that there are families out there that can't provide a roof over their heads and I am blessed that I am able to provide that for my family.
  • I’m VERY grateful to have: a warm, comfortable home to live in. A warm, comfortable workplace. A car to get around in. A great job that allows me to provide for myself. And so much more!
  • I am thankful for my boyfriend Kyle & family! :)
  • I'm thankful for a job that has meaning.
  • I am so thankful for this place to work where the team around me is down-to-earth and where I feel like I’m at home. My family and boyfriend circle me with love and help me live as my best possible self. I’m also thankful for a warm place to live, work, and sleep, for food, for friends, for mentors, and for life. And for my sweet dog.
  • I am thankful for a fantastic work space in the heart of a great city and the opportunity to work with people who care about providing top notch customer service.
  • I am thankful for love shared with family and friends, good health and happiness, and my kids (2-legged and 4-legged) who make me smile and laugh every day.
  • I am thankful for the people whom I work with, although sometimes we have our differences, we always pull together to complete the task at hand.  I am also thankful that I have the opportunity to be a part of the re-awakening of Detroit in any small way.
  • I am most definitely thankful for my family, good friends, and a job that cares about your wellbeing. I know of NO JOB that will give the way HLMS staff give to their employees. It's the small things you all do that you may not know about that are greatly appreciated. I love this place and I am beyond thankful for EVERYTHING that has been done thus far.
  • I’m so grateful for my family!!
  • There is so much to be thankful for! I am thankful most for the simple things like my family and friends and the basic necessities in life.
  • I’m grateful for my 2 wonderful grandchildren (Brody -6 & Bryce-2) who keep me young and on the move.
  • I am thankful for all the free lunches we receive at HLMS and all of the CCRs, PT, billing, and shipping team members that work hard each day.
  • We are all thankful for our relationships with customers, insurance providers, and the diabetes community – and the opportunity to help others.

Thank you for your support of Healthy Living. From all of us, we hope your holidays are merry and bright! Happy New Year!
